Vada G. Brown, an 85-year-old resident of Jamesport, died on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at her home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2007 at the Jamesport United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery in Jamesport.
Mrs. Brown was born on Aug. 30, 1921 in Daviess County, the daughter of Elmer and Leona McCollum Ranes. A lifelong resident of Jamesport, she attended school there , graduating in 1939.
She was married on Aug. 30, 1940 in Daviess County to married Paul Huston, who preceded her in death in 1960. On Feb. 12, 1962, She married in Arkansas on Feb. 12, 1962 to Floyd Brown. who preceded her in death in January 2001.
Mrs. Brown was employed in 1955 as the secretary to the superintendent at Tri-County Schools at Jamesport, retiring in 1985 after 35 years of service. After her marriage to Floyd, the couple volunteered and worked as the caretakers of the Jamesport City Park for many years. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Jamesport, serving on many community-minded programs, organizations and boards. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and was a skilled crafter and seamstress.
Mrs. Brown is survived by a son, Jerry Huston and his wife, Carolyn, of Jamesport; a sister, Alice Youngman of her husband, Norman of Jamesport, Betsy Carmichael and her husband, George of Kansas City; a grandson, Chad Huston of Jamesport; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Huston Tory of Jamesport; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a half-brother, Ernest Ranes, and an infant brother.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Jamesport City Park.
