Rita Burgess, a 63-year-old Trenton resident, died at 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the Cornerstone Fellowship in Chillicothe. Pastor Stan Saunders will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelburne Cemetery near Hickory.
A visitation is scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton. Open visitation is to begin Friday morning.
Mrs. Burgess was born March 18, 1943 in Kansas City, the daughter of J.P. and Mary Gray Manuel.
On Dec. 23, 1962 she married to Clifford Burgess, who preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 2006. Together they owned “Mom’ N Me” gift store in Trenton. Mrs. Burgess also worked alongside her husband in the insurance business for many years.
She is survived by two sons, David Burgess and his wife, Tammy of Edinburg, and Chris Burgess and his wife, Phyllis of Connersville, IN; a daughter, Amy Thrasher and her husband, Matthew of Trenton; two brothers, Jim Manuel of Edinburg, and Bob Manuel of Edwardsville, KS; and six grandchildren, Ambur, Brandon and Megan Burgess, Brittany and Logan Demsich and Noah Thrasher.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Ann Somerville.

Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Sonrise Children’s Home. These may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
