Edison Lewis Raney, a 97-year-old resident of Humphreys, died at 2:50 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2007 at the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton, where he was admitted Feb. 21, 2007.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Payne Funeral Home in Galt. Rev. Mike Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Humphreys Cemetery in Humphreys.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday.
Mr. Raney was born on Feb. 13, 1910 at the Old Shafter Community in Linn County, the son of Edward H. and Nellie M. Lewis Raney. He was married on Dec. 25, 1933 in Galt to Audrey Tunnell, who preceded him in death on Jan, 30, 1968. He was remarried on July 20, 1968 at Meadville to Elfie Tunnell, who preceded him in death Nov. 3, 2004.
He worked for 10 years as a station agent for the QO & KC Railroad. He was employed from 1941 to 1948 in a machine shop for a defense plant in California before moving to Humphreys. He owned and operated Raney’s Welding Shop in Humphreys until retiring.
Mr. Raney was a member of IOOF Lodge #52 in Trenton and a member of the Humphreys Christian Church, where he served as an elder and deacon for many years.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Betty Wimer, and her husband, Bob, of Trenton; step-daughters, Melba Bundridge of Alton, IL, and Peggy Wood of Lee’s Summit; a step-son, Richard Street and his wife, Janie, of Raymore; a sister, Kathleen Peters of Humphreys; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; two step-sons, William and Gary Dale Street; two brothers, Ivan and Sammy Raney; and two sisters, Viva Helgeson and Vivien VanFossen.
Memorial contributions are suggested to either the Humphreys Cemetery Association or Wright Memorial Hospice and may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
