Tri-County R-7
The Tri-County R-7 Board hired a superintendent and offered a contract to the elementary principal during a meeting held Monday evening.
According to Interim Superintendent Harry Wheeler, the board voted to offer Dennis Croy of Gallatin, who currently serves as high school principal, a contract to serve as superintendent for the 2007-2008 school year. Croy will be paid $60,000.
In addition, Elementary Principal Darla Chapman was offered a contract for the 2007-2008 school year. She has signed the contract and will be paid $49,450, which is a 4.5 percent increase over this year.
Wheeler said the board held a time for public comment, with a small group of patrons discussing the basketball program. He reported on problems with the boiler in the high school and ag building, with no action taken. Wheeler also reported that the preschool building has been ordered, with a spring delivery expected.
Health insurance was discussed, with Wheeler noting that no bids have been received at this point and approval was given for the use of Claim Care. The company allows the district to recoup some expenses that are incurred when services such as speech or occupational therapy are provided, if the student is eligible for Medicaid.
The 2007-2008 school calendar was approved, with classes set to begin on Aug. 23 and end on May 21, 2008. A meal charge policy was adopted, which will involve a form letter being sent to parents when the account is in arrears. While students will continue to be fed while the account is in arrears, they could be given a peanut butter sandwich, rather than the regular hot lunch.
In other business, the board selected Rodney Odom to serve as the MSBA committee member for next year.
A closed session was held, with the superintendent and principal evaluations being conducted. The contracts to Mrs. Chapman and Croy were offered following the closed session.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 14.
Princeton R-5
The Princeton R-5 Board also offered administrative contracts during its meeting, but also accepted three resignations.
According to information in the Princeton Post-Telegraph, the board offered contracts for the 2007-2008 school year to George Scurlock as principal for grades seven through 12 and Dulcie Price as principal for grades kindergarten through six.
Resignations were accepted from elementary instructor Marleen Schooler, junior high/high school math instructor Hanah Stark and assistant technology coordinator/special education aide Terri Moore, effective at the end of their contracts. Mrs. Schooler is retiring after 20 years of teaching in the district, while Ms. Stark is returning to Maryville University in St. Louis to complete additional coursework. Ms. Moore has offered to work as a computer technician in the district for the 2007-2008 school year.
According to the P-T, the board set out-of-district tuition for the 2007-2008 school year at $5,900 and approved the 2007-2008 school calendar, which shows classes beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 22 and ending on May 21, 2008.
The board also approved annual reviews of the guidance, reading recovery and Title programs, as well as the professional development program.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 12.
Chula
The Chula Accelerated School Board meeting was held Tuesday, with board members approving the 2007-2008 calendar and setting Feb. 19 as a snow makeup day.
Administrator Sara Littrell requested that the district use $1,000 in grant money to purchase and install a deep sink, which will be considered at a later date. Also to be considered is a gate providing access from the preschool playground to the main playground. It was also suggested that a refrigerator be placed in the school’s office.
In other business, the board voted to purchase a new water heater for the kitchen area and heard a report on upcoming events.
An executive session was held, with no announcement included in the minutes.
