The Trenton High School wrestlers got off to a solid start on Thursday in the opening round of the MSHSAA State Wrestling Championhsips.
Four Bulldogs picked up opening round wins. Seniors Kyle Harkins, Skyler Barron and Miles Moore and junior Kody Hill all picked up wins. Corey Holloway lost and results from Trenton’s other three wrestlers were not available.

Harkins, a senior at 112 pounds, pinned Danny Haston of Lafayette County, 4:30. Harkins will next face Mike Schmidt of Centralia. The freshman won by technical fall over Justin Dean of Versailles, 15-0.
Barron won his opening match at 125-pounds. Barron pinned Matt Wright of Hancock, 3:20. Barron’s win sets up a rematch of last year’s 119 pounds final in the quarterfinalls.
Barron will wrestler Quincy Hawkins of Knob Noster. Hawkins beat Mitch Huntley of Polo by technical fall, 19-3.
Moore made it three wins in four match by beating Josh Osborn of Lathrop. Moore won a 6-4 decision in his opening match at 130 pounds.
Moore will grapple with Tony Demma of Knob Noster in the quarterfinals. Demma pinned Martin Tobias of Whitfield, 2:40.
Hill kicked off his tournament with technical fall victory at 145 pounds. Hill defeated Matt Emry of Lawson, 17-1. In the quarterfinals Hill will face Jordan Pool of Centralia. Pool pinned Titus Singleton of Knob Noster, 3:50.
Holloway lost to Grady Grainger by major decision, 13-2. Holloway will return to action today in the 119 pound first round wrestlebacks. He will wrestle freshman Jon Hales of Plattsburg. Hales was pinned in his opening match by Nick Cordray of Marceiline, 5:02.
The Bulldogs’ final three wrestlers Daniel Stokes, 171 pounds; Ethan Tabbert, 215 pounds and Zack Kinnison, 285 pounds are also in action, but results were not yet available.
The first-round wrestlebacks begin directly following the conclusion of the first round.
Quarterfinals matches begin Friday morning at 9 a.m.
