Mary Irene Cooper

Mary Irene Cooper, an 85-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007 at Liberty Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007 at the Lindley Funeral Home at Chillicothe. A family visitation is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, 2007 at the funeral home. General visitation will be from noon until 9 p.m. on Friday.
Miss Cooper was born Feb. 6, 1922 in Livingston County, the daughter of John Calvin and Mary Irene Cooper. She was a lifelong resident of Livingston County and graduated from Chula High School. She graduated from Northeast Missouri State University at Kirksville with a bachelor of science degree in education. Miss Cooper spent 39 years teaching in elementary schools, including 25 years in the Chillicothe R-2 School District.
She was a member of the Livingston County Retired Teachers Association, was a life-long member of the Grand River Historical Society and was an RSVP volunteer. She was also a member of the First Christian Church of Chillicothe.
Miss Cooper is survived by a sister, Geneva Holden of Chillicothe; six nieces, Linda Perry of Chillicothe, Kay Thomas and Nina Gott of Trenton, Diann Cooper of Des Moines, IA, Sharyn McCoskey of Omaha, NE, and Dixie McClure of Dayton, IA; and four nephews, Wayne Holden of Columbia, Don Cooper of Des Moines, Ronald Eckert of Chula and Gene Grewell of Omaha.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen, Clarence and Clifton Cooper; five sisters, Lena Johnson, Elma Ward, Eva Davenport, Florence Grewell and Veola Eckert; three nephews, Donnie Davenport, Billy Cooper and David Cooper; and one niece, Sheila Eckert.
