Area Scout Leaders Honored

Several Boy Scout leaders from the MaHasKah District were honored for their outstanding service to youth development during the Anniversary Day celebration held Thursday night at the Wesley United Methodist Church.

Scout leaders from Grundy, Mercer, Harrison and Livingston counties were recognized along with the presentation of several troop awards.
Troop 97 of Trenton and Troop 121 of Chillicothe received camping awards from District Scout Executive Jim Madison, who also presented Rachel Campbell and Dean Sager with tokens of appreciation for directing the Cub Scout Day Camp the past three years. The Golden Skillet Award went to Troop 99 of Trenton for the greatest attendance. Kevin Bailey presented the Light Bulb Awards to Chris Ruppel of Troop 121 of Chillicothe and Robert Shields of Pack 23 in Trenton and the Big Stick awards to Doug Priest and Tony Johnson of Troop 105 in Princeton. The Unit Spark Plug Awards went to Cass Fuller, Troop 97; Dawn Stout, Troop 105; Ellen Gordon, Pack 105; and Cory Cooksey, Troop 99.
The District Award of Merit is the highest award that can be given at the district level of scouting, with this year’s recipients being Rachel Campbell and Chris Hoffman. They were recognized by last year’s winners, Cory Cooksey and Roscoe Moulthrop.
Ms. Campbell has been a Cub Scout, Webelos, Scout and Venture leader in Eagleville for the past seven years. She completed the Woodbadge training, then served on the Woodbadge staff. She currently serves on the district training team and is a district commissioner.
Hoffman is a former Eagle Scout and has been a Cub Scout, Webelos and Scout leader in Pack 23 and Troop 99 in Trenton. He has been the Popcorn Colonel for over 10 years. He currently serves as the MaHasKah District Advancement Chairman.
