Memorial services for Lelan Ryan will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 at the First Christian Church of Trenton. Rev. Denise Turner will officiate.
A private family inurnment will be held later in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton. Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home of Trenton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ryan, a 94-year-old resident of 620 Town and Country Lane and a retired area extension agent, died on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 23, 2007 a the North Kansas City Hospital where he had been a patient for four days. The body was cremated.
Mr. Ryan was born on May 12, 1912 near Cameron in Dekalb County, the son of Burton and Cora Ann Scammahorn Ryan. He was married at Columbia on June 20, 1936 to Maude McLean, who preceded him in death on Sept. 3, 2001. He graduated from the University of Missouri and they moved to Trenton in 1942. He was with the University Extension Center for 35 years and taught at Trenton Junior College in the ag program for several years before retiring in 1971.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Trenton, served on the Trenton Fair Board and Trenton R-9 School Board and was a member of the Trenton Rotary Club and the Riverside Country Club.
He is survived by one son, Dr. David Ryan of Trenton; one daughter, Jane Stoll and her husband, Doug of Lee’s Summit; three grandchildren, Ryan Stoll, Grant Stoll and Sarah Hill and her husband, Andy; and two great-grandchildren, Patricia and Andrew Hill.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Thomas.
