A Trenton woman who had filed as a mayoral candidate subject to the April 3 election has had her name removed from the ballot, while a third candidate is seeking the fourth ward city council position.

According to Grundy County Clerk Kristi Urich, Jackie Soptic had requested that her name be removed from the ballot and the request was approved by Third Judicial Circuit Court Judge Jack Peace. The other candidates for the position include incumbent Gary Hall and Cathie Smith.
A three-way race has developed in Trenton’s fourth ward city council race after a woman filed as a write-in candidate.
Edna Foster of 1115 Lake Manor Dr. has filed as a declared write-in candidate in the April 3 election. Her name will not appear on the ballot, but votes for Mrs. Foster will be counted. Two other candidates, Jim Bush and Carolyn Garcia, filed for the office during the regular filing period. Incumbent Greg Lamp did not seek re-election.
