Betty Joan Nida, a 71-year-old resident of Trenton, died at her residence on Monday, Jan. 22, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007 at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Burial will be in the Humphreys Cemetery.
A family visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. General visitation is under way at the funeral home.
Mrs. Nida was born on Sept. 10, 1935 in Lindley, the daughter of William E. and Elma Marie Taylor Smith. She was married at Galt on Nov. 22, 1953 to Roy Earnest Nida, who preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1996.
Mrs. Nida had lived in Trenton since 1957. She lived on a farm for 50 years. She worked in the tamale line for Trenton Foods for a few years, then worked with her husband custom building fences for 20 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and going to garage sales.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice Kay Morris and her husband, Clint, of Aurora, and Dionis Faye Peterie and her husband, Richard, of Trenton; four brothers, Byron Smith of Trenton, Archie Smith of Galt, Keith Smith of Humphreys and Murl Smith of Humphreys; four sisters, Lela Downen of Humphreys, Mae McNanna of Trenton, Myrtle Boram of Humphreys and Ellen Couch of Milan; three grandchildren, Beverly Morris of Springfield, Amber Wilson of Kansas City and Denver Peterie of Trenton; and two great-grandchildren, Grayson Wilson and Amythest Wilson of Kansas City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Dale Lee Nida; two brothers, Marvin Smith and Gerald Smith; and two sisters, Edith Smith and Ila Parrish.
The family suggests memorials to the Trenton Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses or to the American Cancer Society. They may be left at or mailed to the Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
