A former Trenton resident will be returning to her hometown on Saturday, Jan. 20 to perform in concert as part of the Grundy County Friends of the Arts season.

Pianist Kimberly Jackson Carballo will perform with violinist Ji-Woon Jung in a recital at the Wesley United Methodist Church. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the recital to begin at 7 p.m. Mrs. Carballo is the daughter of Phyllis Dible of Trenton and Stan Ellis of Gallatin and is a graduate of Trenton High School.
Mrs. Carballo returns to the community where much of her family still lives and where she started her professional music career as a piano teacher and choir director. She studied with Dr. David McKamie in Kirksville while living in Trenton, then attended college at Indiana University. Since then she has worked internationally as a recitalist and music coach to students, professors and opera companies. She and her husband and young son live in Bloomington, IN.
Ji-Woon Jung also attended Indiana University to receiver her master’s degree and is presently study with Federico Agostini to finish her doctorate in violin performance and literature. She has participated in various international festivals, won numerous competitions and performed as a soloist in recitals and with orchestras.
The two women met while preparing for a competition several years ago and have been working as a duo every since. Duo Jung-Carballo has performed together in recitals in the United States and Mexico, recently winning the prestigious Manuel M. Ponce prize at the Festival de Musica de Camara in Aguascalientes, Mexico. They will return to Mexico in March to perform in the recital series sponsored by the Symphony Orchestra of Aguascalientes and they have a recital series pending at the International Center in Bloomington.
The recital they will perform in Trenton includes sonatas by Brahms, Tartini and Mozart as well as three concert pieces based on dances – a waltz called “Estrellita”; a virtuostic waltz, “Scherzo” by Tchaikovsky; and a passionate nocturne, “Tarnatella” by Szymonowski.
Friends of the Arts season ticketholders and North Central Missouri College students with proper ID will be admitted free to the concert. Admission for all others is $8 at the door.
