The HDC Conference was hoppin’ over the weekend. The Grundy R-5 girls earned their first basketball win of the season. Gilman City lost a pair of home games with Albany and Newtown-Harris took two games from Pattonsburg. The Tri-County girls also knocked off North Harrison.

Grundy R-5 Girls 44,
North Daviess, 36
The Lady Panthers earned their first win of the year and only their third victory in two seasons of play, beating North Daviess in Galt, 44-36.
The Lady Panthers fell behind in the first quarter, 14-8. Grundy R-5 tied the game in the second quarter by outscoring the Lady Knights, 10-4.
Both teams scored 12 points in the third period, making the score 30-30 heading in to the final quarter of play. The Lady Panthers outscored North Daviess 14-6 to win the game.
Heather Vivone had a career day for Grundy R-5 with 20 points as did Paige Ryals, who scored 16 points.
The Lady Panthers improve to 1-10 overall and 1-4 in the HDC. The R-5 girls and boys are in the Milan Tournament this week.
Tri-County Girls 58,
North Harrison 32
The Lady Mustangs improved to 5-2 with a win, 58-32. T-C blew the game open in the second quarter by outscoring North Harrison, 25-5. The Lady Mustangs led at halftime, 34-9.
Tri-County outscored North Harrison in the third quarter, 11-5. North Harrison made a run at the Lady Mustangs in the fourth quarter by outscoring them by 10 points, but it was not enough.
Taryn Dustman led the way for Tri-County with 21 points. Bailey Huston added 16 points for the Lady Mustangs.
The Lady Mustangs will return to the basketball court this week in the Osborn Tournament.
There was no information on the boys contest.
Albany Girls 40,
Gilman City 37
A slow-scoring first half proved too much for the Lady Hawks as they lost by three points, 40-37.
Albany led 11-6 after the first quarter and at halftime had built a 22-15 lead. Gilman City shaved three points off the Lady Warriors’ in the second half, but still came up short.
Abbie Herrold had 13 points and Monica Wilson added 10 points for Gilman City. The Lady Hawks fall to 5-5 overall and are 3-0 in the HDC.
Albany Boys 47,
Gilman City 38
The Warriors outscored Gilman City by 12 points in the fourth quarter to steal a victory in Gilman City, 47-38.
The Hawks trailed by four points at the end of the first quarter, 10-6, but trailed by one point at the break, 18-17. Gilman City had a three-point lead after three quarters, but could not hold off Albany in the final period.
Blake Johnson scored nine points, Kyle King had eight and Bryant Elder chipped in eight for the Hawks.
The Gilman City boys are 4-6 overall, but are still 3-0 in the HDC. The Gilman City team host Southwest-Ludlow on Thursday.
Newtown-Harris Boys 68,
Pattonsburg 38
The Tigers jumped out to a 43-16 first-half lead and went on to beat the Panthers by 30 points.
K.J. Cool had a big night for the Tigers with 23 points, three steals and two assists. He paced a N-H team that outscored Pattonsburg in the second half, 25-22. The Tigers improve to 11-1 overall.
Andy Busick had 12 points, four assists and seven steals. Newtown-Harris connected on just 3-of-13 three-point attempts, but finished the game hitting 50 percent from two-point range.
The Tigers are 5-0 in the HDC play and will return to action this week in the Milan Tournament.
Newtown-Harris Girls 41,
Pattonsburg 9
Newtown-Harris’ defense gave the Lady Panthers no room as the Lady Tigers rolled to a 41-9 win.
Pattonsburg’s points came in the first and third quarters. N-H led at the end of the first quarter, 10-5, but blew the game open in the second quarter, outscoring Pattonsburg, 18-0. The Lady Tigers outscored Pattonsburg in the third quarter, 5-4, then finished game on 8-0 run.
Jessica Huffman finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Tigers. She added two assists and seven steals. Deanna Peck had nine points, nine rebounds, four assists and five steals for the Lady Tigers.
The Newtown-Harris girls improve to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the HDC play. The Lady Tigers will be in the Milan Tournament this week.
