Anna Mae Finney, a 78-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at the home of a daughter, Barbara Jann Hageman, at Lenexa, KS.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007 at the Princeton United Methodist Church. Revs. Harry Foockle and Leroy Perkins will officiate. Burial will in the Princeton Cemetery, under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service of Princeton.
Open visitation is under way at the funeral home, where a family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, 2007.
Mrs. Finney was born on June 26, 1928 on a farm south of Princeton, the daughter of Ray Edward and Ruby Kendell Kauffman. She attended Princeton schools and graduated with honors from Princeton High School in 1947. After graduation, she worked as an operator for the Middle States Telephone Company. She later worked for the Princeton R-5 School System and for Schooler Fertilizer and Yungeberg Agri Service of Princeton.
She was married on Nov. 20, 1948 to Roscoe Booth Finney, who preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1992. She and her husband enjoyed their farm and their life revolved around their family She was known as a gifted pianist and organist and for over 45 years played for several churches, including the Princeton First Baptist Church, the New Hope Baptist Church, the Princeton Christian Church and the Mercer Baptist Church. She also played at many funerals and weddings. She gave piano lessons to 40 students over a 10-year period. She enjoyed her students and seeing their progress.
She was a member of the Princeton First Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty Ann Shaffer and her husband, Danny, of Mercer, Barbara Jann Hageman and her husband, Dan, of Lenexa; and Brenda Jo Finney of North Kansas City; two grandsons, Derek Shaffer and Chris Elmore; and other relatives.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jo Kauffman; and a brother, Thomas Kauffman.
The family suggest memorials to the Anna Mae Finney Music Scholarship Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Services, PO Box 316, Princeton, MO 64673.
