Ruby Harris, a 95-year-old resident of Jamesport, died at 10:35 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006 at the Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 at the Shelburne Baptist Church, southeast of Trenton. Bro. Jesse Cass and Rev. Randy Boone will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelburne Cemetery.
An open visitation begins today (Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007) at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mrs. Harris was born on Oct. 19, 1911 near Hickory, the daughter of William E. and Ethel Metsker Brummitt. She was married in Chillicothe on Dec. 24, 1927 to Herbert Harris, who preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2001. They farmed all their married lives with the exception of two years living in California. They raised milking Shorthorn cows and also showed them for many years. She wrote the Hickory news for the Republican-Times for many years. She did a lot of crocheting and quilting and she enjoyed cooking for a lot of people. She was a member of the Shelburne Baptist Church.
Mrs. Harris is survived by one son, Delvin L. “Jack” Harris of Jamesport; three grandchildren, Dan Boone, Patricia Cunningham and Tina Leon; three step-grandchildren, Majiel Urech, Troy Smith and Max Smith; 10 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois Jean; one great-grandson, Jason Stotts; and two sisters, Ethel Pearl Smith and Belle Brinser.
