NCMC Foundation High School Holiday Shoot-Out

The NCMC Foundation High School Holiday Shoot-Out wrapped up on Friday with six games.
The Trenton High School boys lost their final game of the shoot-out to Lafayette County, 54-24. There were four boys’ games. In addition to the Trenton-Lafayette County matchup, Ridgeway beat Gilman City, 50-39; North Mercer defeated Hale, 65-54; and Chillicothe beat Monroe City, 62-59.
In the two girls games. Braymer beat North Mercer, 56-51, and Chillicothe defeated Lafayette County, 45-18.

THS Boys
The THS Bulldogs fell behind early and were never able to get themselves into the game. Lafayette County led after the first quarter, 16-8.
“We never could get our offense going all week long,” Head Coach Lyle Best said. “I thought the first half we defended fairly well. They just made some difficult shots.”
Lafayette County led at halftime, 31-16. The Huskers blew the game open in the third quarter by outscoring THS, 19-4. Both teams scored four points in the fourth quarter.
Spencer Rhoads led Lafayette County with 16 points. Caleb Hanes had 13 points and Brady Tieman chipped in with 10 points.
Kyle Hoyt paced the Bulldogs with 12 points. T.J. Ireland added six points.
“Hoyt and Ireland played well inside,” Best said. “We have to keep working hard to get better for the future.”
The Bulldogs are 4-7 and will play at Marceline on Friday, Jan. 12.
Boys Results
Ridgeway vs Gilman City
The first half of the contest was very close as the Owls led by one point at the end of the first quarter, 10-9, and were up at the half, 22-21.
The Owls outscored the Hawks in the third quarter by six points and then added four points to their lead in the fourth quarter.
Justin Joiner led the way for Ridgeway with 15 points. Kyle Booth added 10 points.
Chris Hulett scored 12 points for Gilman City and Blake Johnson chipped in with 11 points.
North Mercer vs. Hale
The Cardinals grabbed a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 15-14. Hale came back and had a one-point lead at halftime, 31-30.
The game teetered back in favor of Mercer in the third quarter, with the Cardinals outscoring Hale by two points. Austin Hague helped the Cardinals keep the lead in the fourth quarter with eight points. Hague finished the game with a 19 points.
Tim Bomgardner chipped in for Mercer with 14 points. The Cardinals improve to 7-1.
Kameron Garber led Hale with 22 points. Nick Pointing and Dallas Polen each added 10 points.
Chillicothe vs. Monroe City
Four of the six games on Friday were close, including the Hornets’ win over Monroe City. The difference in the game was in the second quarter with Chillicothe outscoring Monroe City, 21-17. Chillicothe took a 35-28 lead into the second half.
Monroe City made a run at Chillicothe in the fourth quarter, outscoring them, 18-12, but it wasn’t enough.
Colin Parker hit five three-pointers and led the Hornets with 21 points. Bryce Young added 13 points.
Bronson Shaver led Monroe City with 15 points, Paul Hancock scored 14 points and Kyle Buckman had 13 points. Austin O’Bryan chipped in 10 points for the Panthers.
Girls Results
Braymer vs. North Mercer
The Lady Cardinals have run into some tough luck this season and Friday night was no different. The Lady Cardinals lost to Braymer by five points, but had several opportunities to pull out a win.
Mercer trailed by two points after the first quarter, 12-10. The Lady Bobcats ran their lead to four points at the half, 28-24.
The Lady Cardinals got to the charity stripe 21 times in the second half, but could only convert nine of those free throws. Heading into the fourth quarter Braymer led, 37-32. The Lady Cardinals had the lead down to three points with three minutes to play, but missed a pair of free throws and never got any closer.
Toni Brundage led Mercer with 28 points.
Madi Owen led Braymer with 16 points. Emily Swindler, Cassie Herrick and Abby Goodrich each added eight points for the Lady Bobcats.
Chillicothe vs. Lafayette Co.
The Lady Hornets dismantled the Lady Huskers on Friday. Chillicothe outscored Lafayette County 31-9 in the second and third quarters.
At the end of the first quarter it was Chillicothe, 7-5, and the halftime score was in favor of the Lady Hornets, 20-12. Chillicothe’s press held the Lady Huskers to a lone basket and Chillicothe took the lead in the third quarter, 18-2.
Carole Myers scored 10 points in the third quarter and finished with 14 points for Chillicothe. Sara Mathew added eight points.
Kerri Minks led the way with eight points for the Lady Huskers.
