The Grundy R-5, Laredo R-7, Newtown-Harris and Princeton R-5 boards of education heard final Annual Performance Report findings, set filing dates and receiving information on upcoming events during meetings held Monday evening.
Area Schools Hold Meetings Tuesday
Grundy R-5
The Grundy R-5 Board of Education learned that the district has received a perfect score on the Annual Performance Report.
According to Superintendent Rob Deaver, the district received a perfect score on the APR, meeting all 14 criteria. In the initial report, the district had not met the ACT requirement, but with data received from students having taken the test late in the school year, the district now meets this requirement, as well as all of the other 13 areas.
In other business, the board approved the District’s Annual Report Card and program evaluations for Parents as Teachers, Vocational Agriculture and ELL. They also heard reports on junior high and high school science, fifth and sixth grade physical education and third grade. Board members discussed the possibility of joining a health insurance consortium along with several northwest Missouri schools. The board also discussed a proposal from QHS, a company who assists districts in renewing expired FCC licenses and aids them in finding companies that wish to lease their space. The company would receive a percent commission on any money realized from the lease. The board took no action and further information will be sought.
Elementary Principal Lisa Fairley reported that November attendance was 93.11 percent and 50 students received perfect attendance for the month. Mrs. Fairley announced that MAP awards would be presented to students at the next PTO meeting, which will be held at 6:30 p.m., Jan. 18 at the high school in Galt. She updated the board on a violence prevention training that was presented to the high school and elementary faculty and also announced that the elementary Christmas program will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the school in Humphreys. She also updated the board on upcoming events, noting that classes will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 20 for Christmas break and will not resume until Jan. 2.
High School Principal Randy Huffman said attendance at his building in November was 94.41 percent. He also recognized November Students of the Month, as well as those students who received honors in the HDC All-Conference Band. He updated the board on the violence prevention training and shared information on a safety coordinator meeting he attended in Kirksville. He also informed the board that advisory meetings had been held in the areas of guidance, A-Plus and the library media center. He noted that the high school Christmas program will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 19 in the new gym and reported on the FFA blood drive. He also said a financial aid workshop for parents of students who will be attending college next year will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 4 in the high school commons.
An executive session was held to discuss student and personnel matters, with no announcement made.
The board held a special meeting prior to the regular meeting to hear a presentation from Mid-America Facilities Solutions of Lone Jack. The group presented information to the board based on an assessment they had made concerning maintenance and safety issues in areas ranging from fixing roofs to drainage issues, etc. It is the hope of the group, should the board act on their findings, that they would be given the opportunity to work with the district in addressing the areas of issues in their findings. The board took no action.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 8.
Laredo R-7
The Laredo R-7 Board of Education set the filing dates and scheduled special activities during its meeting.
According to information provided by Administrator Jean Dustman, the board set the filing dates for the April election as 8 a.m., Dec. 12 through 5 p.m. Jan. 16 in the school office, which will be closed for the holidays from 1 p.m., Dec. 20 through Jan. 2. The three-year terms of Shane Larson and Mona Loyd will expire. In addition, a one-year unexpired term currently held by Phil Fox will also expire.
In other business, the board reviewed and approved new policy updates and reviewed the budget. No bids were submitted for the sale of a bus. It was announced that the Christmas program will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and students will attend a Christmas movie on Dec. 20.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 8.
Newtown-Harris
The Newtown-Harris Board of Education also learned it received a perfect score on its APR and approved spring parent-teacher conferences during its meeting.
According to information provided by Superintendent Andy Anderson, the board earned a 14 out of 14 on the final Annual Performance Report, receiving a full waiver on its fourth cycle Missouri School Improvement Review. The district has received the “Distinction in Performance” for the second consecutive year. It was noted that the school report card has been submitted.
In other business, the board heard teacher reports from Jeremy Parsons and Linda Hague and set the filing dates as Dec. 12 through Jan. 16. The three-year terms of Tim Tucker and Marty Altiser will expire.
Micah Busick was recognized as Elementary Student of the Month and the board set spring parent/teacher conferences for March 22. Classes will dismiss that day at 12:30 p.m., with conferences held from 2 to 6 p.m. There will be no school on Friday, March 23. A teacher in-service is scheduled for Jan. 11, with classes to dismiss that day at 12:30 p.m. Classes will dismiss for Christmas vacation on Dec. 15 and resume on Jan. 2.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 8.
Princeton R-5
According to Superintendent Alan Hamilton, the Princeton board approved a notice of intent to join the Northwest Missouri Schools Insurance Cooperative and reviewed and approved a quarterly investment report. Also approved was an increase in the salaries of the Stacy Center manager and lifeguards to meet new minimum wage standards. Board members set graduation for 5 p.m., Sunday, May 20 at the Premium Standard Farms Educa-tion Center.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 8.
