Three area HDC Conference schools were in action in the Gallatin Tournament on Thursday night.

The Gilman City girls defeated Winston, 60-34. The Gilman City boys and Newtown-Harris girls were both eliminated from the tourney, with Gilman City losing to Maysville, 64-60, and the Lady Tigers falling to South Harrison, 47-35.
A quick start by the Lady Hawks locked up the win for Gilman City. The Lady Hawks outscored Winston in the first half, 28-11. Gilman City’s inside-outside combo of Kyla Payne and Monica Wilson combined to outscore Winston’s whole team. Wilson finished with 21 points and Payne added 20 points while the Lady Redbirds finished with 34 total points. Randee Prindle also continued to be productive for Gilman City on offense with 10 points.
The Gilman City girls will play South Harrison in the consolation championship on Saturday.
The Newtown-Harris girls trailed South Harrison at halftime by four points, but the girls from Bethany kept the Lady Tigers from ever closing that gap. Jessica Huffman had 13 points and Kali Daum added 10 points for Newtown-Harris.
The Newtown-Harris girls will be at Seymour, IA on Tuesday night.
After falling behind the Wolverines early in the contest, the Gilman City boys battled their way back into the game to only lose by four points. The Hawks were outscored by 11 points in the first quarter and went into halftime trailing, 32-20.
A strong third quarter had the game tied heading into the fourth quarter, 41-41. Maysville managed to just outlast the Hawks and move into the third place game.
Kyle King led Gilman City with 15 points. Blake Johnson had 14 points and Bryant Elder chipped in with 11 points.
The Hawks fall to 0-2 overall. The Gilman City boys will host Gallatin on Dec. 12.
Tonight’s games feature the four semifinal contests. The Hamilton girls will play Maysville at 4:30, followed by the THS boys and South Harrison at 5:45 p.m. The THS girls will play Gallatin at 7 o’clock and the Newtown-Harris boys and Gallatin play in the late game at 8:15.
