The Trenton City Council approved two ordinances and turned down a third during a brief public meeting on Monday night at city hall.
City Council Passes Ordinances
On a 6-0 vote, the council gave the go ahead to LET, Inc. and Troy Smith to replat property on St. Joseph Street to allow for the construction of single-family dwellings. The ordinance had been recommended for approval by the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission, which had asked for a change in the legal description to reflect differences in the size of the property when the original and second surveys were done. The change was made.
Also approved was an ordinance approve a variance to allow Bart Thomas to construct a building for his business at 1122 Oklahoma Ave. This ordinance also received the backing of the planning and zoning commission.
Turned down was an ordinance which would have allowed a variance to Clyde and Gertrude Kidd to allow them to construct a deck on a residence at 1421 Tindall Ave. The planning and zoning commission had recommended the request be turned down because of several problems, including construction of the structure on the city right-of-way.
Several reports were given during the meeting, with the Airport Advisory Committee scheduled to meet at 11 a.m. on Nov. 27 with the aviation division of the Missouri Department of Transportation concerning work at the airport. Building Inspector Gary Beverlin reported three properties have been put out for bid to be demolished by the city. TMU Director Chad Davis said that paperwork is under way for bonds through the State Revolving Fund that will be used to pay for improvements to the city’s wastewater plant, which were approved by voters last week.
Police Chief Tony Ralston said the Firefighter Explorer Post is meeting on a regular basis and that fund-raisers conducted by the fire department have raised $601 for fencing at the proposed fire training center. A goal of $30,000 for the fencing has been set.
Police Chief Bob Lewis said that Officer Larry Adams would be gone for two weeks for national guard training. He also reported that applications are still being accepted to fill the position of Jesse Wills.
Present for the council meeting were Jackie Soptic, Dr. Nick McHargue, Kenneth Ewing, Chuck Elliott, David Trickel and Greg Lamp. Absent were Steve Perry and Ed Holt.
An executive session for personnel and legal matters was held with no announcement made.
