Trenton firefighters spent a good part of Sunday night battling a blaze at a local grain bin.

According to firefighters, a call came in around 9:15 p.m. that there was smoke in the area of 3031 Pleasant Plain. When officers arrived in the area, they could see smoke and flames coming from a grain bin at MFA Agriservices. Firefighters sought assistance from the Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District, as well as seeking help from Aquila, Trenton Municipal Utilities and MFA management. They used the department’s aerial truck to supply water to the top of the grain bin and then cut two holes in the lower section of the bin to remove grain. After the grain was removed, they used the aerial truck to supply water to the grain and extinguish the fire. The cause of the blaze is thought to have been defective equipment in the elevator.
Firefighters was on the scene until nearly 2 a.m.
