Georgia E. Sykes, an 84-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 at Pearl’s II Eden for Elders in Princeton.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Princeton. Burial was in the Fairley Cemetery at Princeton under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home of Chillicothe.
Mrs. Sykes was born Jan. 17, 1922 near Half Rock in Mercer County, the daughter of Clifford Herbert and Bertha Leona Rhoades Stottlemyre.
She was married on April 8, 1939 to Nathan Charles Sparks, who preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1963. The lived most of their lives around Princeton. She married Morris Sykes in 1976 and lived in Topeka, KS for eight years. The marriage ended in divorced and she moved back to Princeton, where she lived the last 22 years.
Mrs. Sykes worked as a waitress in various restaurants in the Princeton area and worked as a cashier at the Big G Grocery in Princeton. She was a member of the Princeton United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Bronna Sue Lyon and her husband, Jim, of Newtown; a son-in-law, Doyle Barton of Princeton; a sister, Willa Lea Overton of Lee’s Summit; a brother, Clifton Leon Stottlemeyre of Davenport, IA; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Virginia Girdner; a daughter, Peggy Louise Barton; and a granddaughter, Alicia Ann Lyon.
