Trenton attorney R. Leroy Miller will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award at the Lake of the Ozarks and will become the ninth alum of the regional college to be recognized with this prestigious award.
Previous honorees have included Frank Hoffman, Lloyd and Margaret Ketcham, Larry D. Barnes, Chris Hoffman, Phyllis Jackson Dible, Betty Frances Hall and Robert Gallup representing Trenton Junior College/North Central Missouri College.
Miller obtained his associate in arts degree from TJC in 1937 before moving on to the Kansas City School of Law. The name of the Kansas City institution was changed to Kansas City University and later the University of Missouri School of Law and Miller claimed his juris doctorate degree officially in 1940.
Miller has been affiliated with a law practice since the early 1940’s. He has served as city attorney for Trenton as well as the Grundy County Prosecutor in addition to extensive membership with the Missouri Bar Association and membership on the distinguished Board of Governors. Other significant community affiliations have included a 30-year membership in the Trenton Rotary Club and service as Rotary District Governor, longtime membership in the Trenton First Baptist Church with involvement including membership on Board of Trustees, chairman of the Grundy County Red Cross, a longtime volunteer with Boy Scouts of America and a board member of the Grundy County Health Department and the North Central Missouri College Foundation Board of Directors. He continues to serve as the senior member in the law firm of Miller, Seidel and Havens in Trenton.
According to NCMC officials, Miller has a tremendous history of supporting the local college. Both NCMC President Dr. Neil Nuttall and Director of Development Steve Maxey praise Miller for his encouragement of the growth of the college and his most recent leadership in the establishment of the Barton Farm Campus, expected to begin development in 2007.
Miller will be joined this week in receiving his honor by his wife, Jane, and children, David and Martha, along with a strong representation from the NCMC family.
