This is the second year Melissa has received this honor. Junior and senior members of the All-District Choir are allowed to audition for All-State Choir, with only four students from each section (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) and one alternate selected. The Missouri All-State Choir is one of the nation’s finest All-State ensembles and is the highest honor a vocal music student can receive in their high school career. Melissa has been a member of the All-District Choir for four years and has received Superior I ratings in the following events: District solo (three years), State solo (three years), District ensemble (two years) and Aria and Art Song Festival (two years). She was a member of the MCDA Honor Choir for two years, was named Soprano Honor Camper at Northwest Missouri State University Music Camp for two years and was awarded a scholarship to attend music camp from Sigma Alpha Iota (a music fraternity for women).
Melissa has been a member of the THS Concert Choir and Gold Rush since her freshman year. In June 2006, she represented THS at the Missouri Fine Arts Academy.
Melissa is the daughter of Sharry Gay and is a student of Elizabeth Robbins, THS vocal music instructor.
