Trenton was one of several communities seeking the designation, which would provide those successful applicants with various resources to redevelop their downtown areas. The letter, sent by DED Director Greg Steinhoff, indicated that while the city’s application contained “a great measure” of the four assets that form the foundation for successful redevelopment, it was not one of those chosen. The list of communities receiving DREAM Initiative designation was to be announced at a meeting being held today in St. Louis. The number of communities chosen is not known.
The letter goes on to say that a series of trainings and seminars would be made available to the city to assist the community with continued redevelopment efforts. The trainings will be by invitation-only and include identifying and building upon unique features of the community and learning and understanding the content of a solid redevelopment plan. Specific redevelopment finance programs in Missouri and one-on-one technical assistance will also be made available.
The DED indicated the city would receive written feedback on its application and the community can resubmit an application next year.
