Students, faculty and personnel at all the schools have been encouraged to take part in the Spirit Week events, with the football cheerleaders having sold over 700 “Bulldog Pride” shirts at the elementary, middle school and high school. The THS Student Council, which sponsors homecoming activities, are encouraging everyone who purchased a shirt to wear them to school and to the game on Friday, Oct. 6, when Trenton will host Princeton.
“Proud to Be an American” is the theme for Monday’s spirit day with everyone being encouraged to wear red, white and blue or Americana gear to show pride in living in the United States of America. Tuesday is “Old School Day,” with students and staff wearing outfits from the past. “Geek Day” is Wednesday while Thursday as been designated as “Gender Bender Day,” when boys will dress like girls and girls will dress like boys. “Blackout Day” will be on Friday.
A “car show” is planned for Thursday on the THS football practice field. That evening will be the pep rally at C.F. Russell Stadium, which gets under way at 7:30. All fall sports teams will be introduced and the homecoming royalty will be crowned, followed by a bonfire.
Candidates for queen are senior Ashley Bramblett, Melissa Gay, Ciara Gibson, Phoebe Kitchen and Cara Ricketts. Senior king candidates are Logan Epperson, Derek Miller, Aaron Shipley-Fair, Daniel Stokes and Logan Wyant. Candidates for princess and their escorts are juniors Molly Holeman and Zach Kinnison, sophomores Kayna Tolle and Kade Kinney and freshmen Ryan Wade, Erika Ebersold and Marshall Foster. The crownbearers will be Kynzlee and Kynadee Nuttall and Gabriel Swann.
School will be dismissed early on Friday for the parade, which begins at 2 p.m. The grand marshals will be Richard and Donna Ashenfelter, former teachers and longtime supporters of the Bulldogs. The parade route will be from the high school parking lot, north on Normal, west on 17th Street, south on Harris Avenue, east on Ninth street to Bulldog Avenue and C.F. Russell Stadium.
This year the floats will be parked on the east side of the football field during the game. Instead of decorating the halls this year, each class will be assigned a section of the west fence at the football stadium to be decorated and judged. The winners of the decorating contest and float competition will be announced prior to the game on Friday night.
Also prior to kickoff will be the introduction of the queen, princess and their homecoming court. The girls will be escorted down the 50-yard line by their parents. Assisting in the introduction will be the THS Marching Band, under the direction of Tim Gilham, and the THS Colorguard, under the direction of Taya Ray.. Following the introductions, the THS Concert Choir and Gold Rush, under the direction of Elizabeth Robbins, will sing the National Anthem. The pre-game activities begin at 6:20 p.m. with the royalty entering the stadium in cars and circling the field on the track. Kickoff for the game is at 7 o’clock.
The homecoming dance will be on Saturday from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the high school gym with music provided by DJ “Total Wattage.” Admission is $3 per person or $5 per couple. Student pictures will also be taken.
