Elizabeth Deloras Shew, an 80-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006 at Pearl’s II Eden for Elders in Princeton.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25, 2006 at the New Hope Baptist Church in Princeton. Rev. Ronald Smith officiated. Burial was in the Zoar Cemetery at Cainsville.
Mrs. .Shew was born in Adair County near Novinger on July 15, 1926, the daughter of Elmer and Chloe Walters Moss. She was married on Feb. 4, 1946 in Troy, KS to James Benjamin “J.B.” Shew, who preceded her in death on Dec. 28 1989.
The couple lived in Wichita, KS for 20 years, where she worked as a licensed practical nurse at St. Francis Hospital. They returned to Mercer County in 1970 and she was employed as an LPN at Axtell Osteopathic Hospital in Princeton until the hospital closed, She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Princeton.
She is survived by two sons, Danny Shew and his wife, Marsha, of Princeton, and Mike Shew and his wife, Ginger, of Kansas City; two daughters, Nancy Heath and her husband, Ewell, of Poughkeepsie, AR, and Patty Duff and her husband, John, of Cainsville; four grandchildren, Becci Shew of Princeton, Jamie Shew and his wife, Dawn, of Lawrence, KS, Katie Thompson and her husband, Brien, of Cainsville, and Jonnie Beavers and her husband, Keith, of Mercer; four great-grandchildren, Jake and Annie Shew and Shannen and Ashten Thompson; one brother, Gerald Moss of Unionville; one sister, Vivian Sherer and her husband, Garland, of Grant City; and several other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brandi Jo Duff; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Shew.
The family suggests memorials to the Zion Church Building Fund. They may be left at or mailed to the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel at PO Box 316, Princeton, MO 64673.
