According to information provided by Principal Danny Johnson, he informed the board that the district has met all of the benchmarks for annual progress under the No Child Left Behind guidelines, and said a more in-depth report will be given at the October meeting.
The board agreed to seek bids for a shelter for a recently-purchased district van, with the bids to be open at the next meeting. Johnson visited with the board about a community plan to paint art murals on the buildings in Spickard. The board and Johnson will meet with the Spickard City Council to help establish guidelines for the project.
Board members approved the basketball schedule, voted to roll over two certificates of deposit at $25,000 each. One will be rolled over into a 12-month CD, while the second one will be rolled over into an 18-month CD. The board directed Johnson to continue to check into additional options for hand dryers before purchasing them and heard an update on bids being sought for bulldozing recently-acquired district land. Those bids will also be opened at the next meeting.
In other business, the board tabled the adoption of a new policy manual until additional manuals can be reviewed and Johnson discussed a series of purchases the district is currently making with REAP funds made available by the federal government.
Johnson shared with the board a letter from Tim Richardson, a board member, announcing his resignation due to time conflicts with a new job. Johnson also discussed the need to make changes to the current board policy regarding student residency and was asked to make changes for the board to review at the next meeting.
The board changed the dates of the next several board meetings due to conflicts with athletic events and holidays. The October meeting will be held Oct. 19, while the November meeting will be held Nov. 28 and the December meeting will be held on Dec. 18.
An executive session was held, with no announcement made.
