Things continue to roll along here at the R-T sports desk. The votes are in for the THS football team’s all-time secondary. Readers cast 107 votes in Week 2. It appears the readers and I have a difference of opinion when it comes to our all-time defensive backs.

There is no place on this year’s team for “(C.F.) Russell’s boys,” as both Jimmy Austin (four votes) and Richard Whitaker (eight votes) were left off the Reader’s Choice All-Time Team. In fact, three of my six defensive back choices did not make the cut. The third D-back that made my list, but not the readers’ choice team, was Andy Hill (nine votes).
Just edging Hill out for the fifth spot on this year’s team was Steve Sharp, 1970. Sharp finished with 10 votes. Sharp and the Bulldogs went 5-4 in 1970. Jason Spillman, 1986, came in fourth with 12 votes and third place goes to Robbie Robinson, 1995, with 14 votes. Spillman was a part of Dick Mellencamp’s best season as head coach of THS. During the ‘86 season, Trenton went 6-3. Robinson’s team was the last Bulldog squad to beat Chillicothe.
John Hamilton finished second and becomes the Bulldogs’ first two-way player with 16 votes. Hamilton and his fellow defensive backs pulled down 12 interceptions. The 1966 team allowed only 36 points all season long.
The top votegetter in the week three, Reader’s Choice All-Time Team defensive back poll was Wade Peters with 31 votes. Peters was a two-time all state selection at defensive back. During his senior campaign, Peters nabbed six interceptions and returned one for a touchdown.
