Funeral services for Gene Gear will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, 2006 at the South Evans Christian Church, located east of Tindall.
There is no scheduled family visitation at the Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton.
Mr. Gear, a 92-year-old resident of the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton, died at 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006 at the nursing home. He was a retired Grundy County farmer.
Mr. Gear was born on Feb. 14, 1914 near Coffey, the son of Carre C. and Blanche McCoy Gear. He attended Laredo schools.
He was married at Trenton on March 11, 1933 to Virginia Frances Bonta, who survives of the home in Trenton. The couple farmed all of their married lives in the Rabbit Ridge and South Evans communities in Grundy County.
He was a member of the South Evans Christian Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Gear is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Leeper of Tindall and Barbara Briegel and her husband, James of Lake Lotawana; seven grandchildren, Deborah Cribb and her husband, Tom, and Beth Michael and her husband, George, of Trenton, Scott Leeper of Sterling, CO, Brantley Briegel of Lake Lotawana, Linda Kennard and her husband, Kris of Grain Valley, Tim Gear and his wife, Chastity of Warrensburg and Rebecca Gear of Denver, CO; seven great-grandchildren, Brent McClintick of Trenton, Brooke Allen of Cameron, Joshua Leeper and Kelly Leeper of South Dakota, Clayton Briegel and Rhianne Briegel of Lake Lotawana and Taylor Hagen of Denver, CO; three great-great-grandchildren, Koleby McClintick of Trenton, Madison Allen of Cameron and Gunnar Briegel of Lake Lotawana; and seven step-great-grandchildren, Jacob Cribb, Jaci and Riley Michael, Seth and Macon Allen and Emma Hurley.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gear was preceded in death by a son, Michael Gear of Warsaw; a brother, Leland Gear of Sun City, AZ; and a sister, Arline G. Carpenter of Branson.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the South Evans Christian Church, the South Evans Christian Church Cemetery Association or Wright Memorial Hospice.
