Things got off to a slow start for the second straight week for the Princeton football team.
Princeton Tigers Win First Game
The Tigers found themselves down 16-6 heading into the fourth quarter, but rallied to beat Polo in the final quarter, 19-16.
The Panthers hit Princeton with a pair of long passes in the first half to grab the lead. Polo’s first score came eight minutes into the contest when Chris Hufford caught a 69-yard touchdown pass from Matt Huntley. Josh Duncan ran in the two-point conversion.
The Panthers struck again early in the second quarter when Huntley connected with Duncan on 60-yard touchdown pass.
Princeton scored its first touchdown with 5:30 minutes remaining in the first half. Michael Ormsby scored on a one-yard run. The two-point conversion failed.
Ormsby led Princeton’s ground attack with 143 yards on 28 carries. He also pulled down two passes for 20 yards.
The two teams were scoreless in the third quarter. With just over 10 minutes remaining in the game, Nate Moore scored on 12-yard pass from Troy Meinke. The point-after attempt failed and the Tigers trailed, 18-12.
Princeton claimed its first lead of the season with three minutes remaining in the game. Morgan Duff scored on a four-yard run. Storm Kinnison added a the point-after and the Tigers led, 19-12.
The Tigers improve to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Grand River Conference. Polo falls to 1-1 overall and is currently 1-1 in the GRC.
Princeton will travel to Maysville on Friday night.
