The Trenton High School softball team went 1-2 over the weekend at the Carrollton Quad. The Lady Bulldogs lost to Carrollton and Higginsville but beat Marshall.

In Trenton’s two losses, the Lady Bulldogs surrendered 12 runs in the final three innings.
In the opening game, Carrollton scored five runs in the fifth inning to blow the game open. Against Higginsville, the Lady Huskers scored seven runs in the final three innings.
THS vs. Carrollton, 10-2, Loss
The Lady Bulldogs picked up two runs in the top of the second inning. The Lady Trojans took their first lead in the bottom of the third inning with three runs.
“We looked good early in the game,” Head Coach Lyle Best said. “But we could not shut down their bats.”
Carrollton added two runs in the bottom of the fourth and then scored five runs in the fifth. THS was out hit 12-4 and committed a pair of errors.
“The top of Carrollton’s batting order hit extremely well in the third and fifth innings,” Best noted. “We had an early lead, but their offense came to life in the middle of the game.”
Aubrey Utley took the loss. She went seven innings, allowing 12 hits, one walk and she struck out seven batters.
Trisha Ireland, Taby Winters and Emily Anderson all singled. Anderson also scored a run. Tasha Hutchinson scored a run and stole a base. Tasha Porter added one RBI.
THS vs. Marshall, 17-0, win
In the second game, the Lady Bulldogs amassed 12 hits and 17 runs on their way to an easy win over Marshall. The Lady Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second, two in the third and then five runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings.
“We scored early and often,” Best said. “Utley pitched great and never allowed Marshall to get going on offense.”
Utley struck out 12 and allowed two hits and did not issue a walk.
Ireland went three-for-four with a single, double, two stolen bases, two RBIs and a run scored. Brittany Lynch had two singles, a run scored and an RBI. Aimee Gutshall had two singles and pair of runs scored. Anderson had a triple, three runs scored, four RBIs and two stolen bases. Hutchinson had two singles, two stolen bases, one RBI and one run scored.
Crystal Pash had two singles and three runs scored. Charly DeVorss had two singles, Samantha Fair scored a run, JaNea Whitney scored a run and stole a base and Taby Winters scored two runs and stole a base.
THS vs.
Higginsville, 10-1, loss
The Lady Bulldogs and Higginsville went scoreless in the opening two innings. The Lady Huskers scored three runs in the top of the third inning.
Higginsville scored two more in the top of the fifth, one run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh.
“Higginsville is a very good team,” Best said. “Other than a bad seventh inning, we played well against them.”
Utley allowed 10 runs on nine hits. She struck out eight and did not issue a walk. Ireland singled, scored a run and stole a base. Whitney had a single, Lynch singled and Gutshall singled and had an RBI.
The Lady Bulldogs are 2-4 overall and will be at Brookfield this afternoon.
