Several area softball teams were in action on Tuesday night.

The Grundy R-5 boys took a loss in the opening game of the season with North Harrison, 11-8. Six Grundy R-5 errors proved too much to overcome for the Panthers
Three errors in the bottom of the fifth inning helped the Shamrocks score three runs and take a 10-8 lead. The Panthers fell behind by five runs after the first inning, but scored seven in the top of the second inning. North Harrison tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third.
Grundy R-5 reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth with one run, but surrendered the lead for good in the bottom of the inning.
Logan Jackson took the loss for R-5, giving up five hits and seven walks while striking out four. Lisle earned the win for North Harrison. Nick Lentz had a pair of hits and two RBIs for the Panthers . Kyle Larson added a two-run home run.
The Panthers are 0-1 and will host Gilman City on Thursday. Grundy R-5 is not fielding a girls team this season.
The Tri-County boys and girls softball teams split a pair of games against North Mercer on Tuesday night. The Lady Mustangs dropped to 1-1 as they lost to the Lady Cardinals, 16-8. The Tri-County Mustangs went to 3-0 after beating Mercer, 13-3.
Bruce Sweet picked up the win for the Tri-County boys and Jose Hernandez suffered the loss for the Cardinals. Mercer opened the game with three runs, but the Mustangs answered with eight runs in the bottom of the first. T-C added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth and the game was called in the fifth inning. Gib Wray and Sweet were the Tri-County standouts, with Wray getting a big hit with the bases loaded in the first inning while Sweet had nine strikeouts on the mound.
Mercer scored six run in the top of the second inning of the girls game. The Lady Cardinals scored in the fourth and then piled on eight runs in the sixth innings. T-C scored one in the second, one in the third and three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
Taryn Dustman scored three runs and Laurie Eads finished the game 2-for-4 for the Lady Mustangs. Toni Brundage earned the win for North Mercer. The Lady Cardinals are 3-0 overall and the Mercer boys fall to 0-4.
The Mustangs host Winston on Thursday while the Lady Cardinals play at North Daviess on Tuesday. Both the Mercer and Tri-County teams will be in action in the HDC Tournament on Sept. 8-9.
