THS Golfers Win At Cameron
The Trenton High School girls golf team braved rainy conditions in Cameron on Monday and came away with a triangular meet win.
The Lady Bulldogs carded a team score of 201, which was seven strokes better than Cameron’s 208. Maysville finished the varsity round with a score of 245.
“I was pleased. The weather was not the best,” Head Coach Ann Constant said. “It drizzled most of the time and rained pretty hard for about the last 30 minutes of play.”
Cameron’s Megan Chaney was the medalist with a score of 45. Trenton’s Hadley Jennings was the runner-up with a score of 46. Jennings was four-over-par after the opening four holes. She shot five-over-par on holes five and six and then finished the final three holes with an impressive score of one-over-par.
“I was proud of the girls. It was good to win on the road,” Constant said. “Hole six was the hole that gave almost everyone the most trouble. It was a long hole and you have to lay-up on your second shot and then hit your third shot over a pond to the green. It was obviously tough for us after looking at the score cards.”
Molly Holeman joined Jennings and Chaney as one of four golfers to break 50 on Tuesday. Holeman shot a 48. Holeman opened her round fast, parring three of her first five holes. She was two-over-par before struggling on the sixth hole. Holeman bounced back to shoot three-over-par on the final three holes.
Katherine Hoffman struggled on the fifth and sixth holes but finished with a solid round of 53. Taylor Cox shot a 54 and Kiley Slater ran into some trouble on holes six and nine but finished with a 57. Her score did not count in the final team score.
Megan Fallein of Cameron was the only other golfer to break 50 with a score of 48. Allison Miller led Maysville with a score of 56.
The junior varsity golfers competed as well on Tuesday. Only the top three scores were counted in the junior varsity match. The Lady Bulldogs finished with the low three scores at 178. Maysville shot a 205 and Cameron finished with a 211.
Aaron Smith was the junior varsity medalist with a score of 54. Hannah Barron was the runner-up with a score of 58. Emily Schmidt carded a score of 68.
Kristi Thompson led Cameron with a score of 68. Patricia Erickson and Shelbi Farni each carded a 67 for Maysville.
“We only counted the best three junior varsity scores,” Constant said. “Aaron and Hannah both played well.”
The Lady Bulldogs will be at Marceline today.
