Lifelong Trenton resident Billy Gene Williams, 80, passed away at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006 at the Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, where he had been a patient for one day after suffering a massive stroke.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, 2006 at the Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. There is no scheduled family visitation. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens following military graveside rites. The family has suggested that memorials be give to the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library.
Mr. Williams was born on May 7, 1926 at Trenton, the son of Milo Kenneth and Jessie Clio Hatcher Williams. From Dec. 2, 1943 until his discharge on May 6, 1947, he served in the United States Navy during WW II and the Korean War. He returned to Trenton after his discharge and was employed as a conductor and brakeman with the C.R.I. & P. and the Cotton Belt Railroad companies. On Dec. 14, 1950, he was married to Lucille Hann at Spickard. She preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 2000.
He was a member of the Church of Christ, a life member of the Joseph L. Norton VFW Post No. 919 and the United Transportation Union.
Mr. Williams is survived by a sister, Barbara Hunt of Iowa City, IA; two sisters-in-law, Lois Hann and Luretta LaBlanc and her husband, Carl, all of Trenton; two brothers-in-law, J.W. Hann and his wife, Dorothy, and Rex Gray, all of Trenton; seven nephews, Garry Croy and his wife, Beverly, of Trenton, Larry Croy of Happy, TX, Jimmy Gray of Gallatin, Tony and Kelly Williams and Cyd Coursen, all of the state of Arizona, and Toy Williams of the state of Washington; seven nieces, Brenda Rogers of Kansas City, KS. Shelia Merrifield, Sheryl Marsden, Shelley Blakey and Stephanie Spivey, all of the state of Iowa, Melissa Hays of Higginsville and Mary Alice Simpson of Springfield; three great-nephews, Wes, Lance and John Croy; two great-nieces, Jill Watkins and Emily Fisher; five great-great-nephews, Pake, Mason, Lethan and Coltin Croy and Ethan Fisher; and two great-great-nieces, Salem Leigh Croy and Gracie Fisher.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Williams; a sister, Eva Lou Gray; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Essie and Earl Hann; a nephew, Ronnie Hann; and a great-nephew, Michael Croy.
