Area School Boards Set Levies

Levies were set by three area school boards during meetings on Tuesday night.

Pleasant View R-6
The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education set its 2006-2007 school levy and approved lunch and breakfast prices during a meeting on Tuesday night at the school.
According to information provided by Superintendent Brian Robinson, the district levy will be $4.46 on the $100 assessed valuation. The levy is based on an assessed valuation of $5,874,559 and the district anticipates revenues from the tax of around $262,000.
A 10-cent increase in lunch and breakfast prices was approved for next year. Lunch prices will be $1.40 for students in grades kindergarten through two, $1.60 for students in grades three through eight and $1.75 for adults. The breakfast price will be 90 cents.
The board approved the annual Secretary of the Board Report as well as accepted a milk bid from Prairie Farms. Bus routes for the coming year were approved as was the class schedule.
The board reviewed applications for enrollment and conducted a first reading on the Missouri School Boards Association Tobacco Free District Policy. Robinson said the current policy is tobacco free in the school building only. The policy will be discussed at the next meeting.
Robinson informed the board that 16 new computers have been purchased for the school and are being installed in the computer lab and various classrooms. An update on maintenance projects was given, with new windows currently being installed in the school. It was announced the first day of classes will be Wednesday, Aug. 16, with teacher in-service on Tuesday, Aug. 15.
During the executive session, Sierra Shriver of Lineville, IA was hired as a part-time Early Childhood Special Education Speech Therapist.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12.
Tri-County
The Tri-County R-7 Board of Education set its 2006-2007 levy during a meeting Tuesday night at the school.
According to information provided by Superintendent Mary Kish, the board set the levy at $4.0187 on the $100 assessed valuation. A bid from MFA at Gallatin of $1.38 per gallon, firm, was accepted for propane and the board approved the annual financial disclosure information for the district as well as the annual Secretary of the Board Report.
Following the meeting, the board held a cookout for staff and faculty. The next regularly scheduled board meeting is Monday, Sept. 11.
Livingston County R-3
The Livingston County R-3 Board approved its levy and set meal prices at its meeting on Tuesday night at the school in Chula.
According to information provider by administrator Sara Littrell, the board approved the 2006-2007 tax rate at $4.401 on the $100 assessed valuation. Lunch prices were set at $1 and 60 cents for full-price lunches and breakfasts, respectively, while the reduced-price lunch and breakfast prices were set at 40 cents and 30 cents, respectively. The free and reduced lunch scale was also adopted.
Approved by the board was the annual Secretary of the Board Report, the transportation report and school handbook updates as well as amendments to the Parent/Family Involvement Policy, the Wellness Program and the Bullying Policy. A milk bid from Prairie Farms Dairy was approved.
During an executive session of the board, clarification of the policy concerning eighth grade valedictorian and salutatorian was made to include grades of all subject areas.
