Lifelong Trenton resident and retired elementary teacher Edith Muff, 93, died at 7:55 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at the Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton, where she had resided since Sept. 3, 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Trenton. A family visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton. Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Muff was born on May 7, 1913 in Trenton, the daughter of William A. and Amye Bonta Knedler. She was a descendant of an early pioneer family that came to Grundy County around 1836 and lived all her life in Trenton. She graduated from Trenton High School in 1931 and from Trenton Junior College in 1933, then went to the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she earned her bachelor’s of science and master’s in education degrees. She returned to Trenton and taught at rural schools for five years, then came into Trenton and taught 19 years as a first grade teacher and speech correction teacher for the Trenton R-9 School System.
She was married on Nov. 23, 1933 at Kingston to Kenneth Thomas, who preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1987. She was married on June 4, 1993 to Carl Muff, who preceded her in death on May 18, 2001.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years; was a lifetime member of the Grundy County Historical Society; past president of the AAUW; the XCIX Club; the Dorcas Richardson chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; and Parson Chapter No. 189, Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one son, Dr. John Thomas of San Rafael, CA; a daughter-in-law, Janice Thomas of Mill Valley, CA; a step-son, Robert Muff of Jefferson City; two step-daughters, Jeanie Jones of Kansas City and Ruth Yohanan of Hillsborough, CA; three grandchildren, Amy Archer of Saratoga, CA, Ann Thomas of New York City, NY and Alan Thomas of San Francisco, CA; eight step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth McNeill.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
