Activities have been announced for the Galt Community Fair and Mercer County Fair, both of which will be held in July.
Galt Community Fair
The Galt Community Fair is scheduled from Thursday, July 6 through Sunday, July 7 in the downtown area.
A spaghetti supper, sponsored by the Galt Fire District Ladies Auxiliary, kicks things off on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the fire station. The evening entertainment will be the Gateway Singers, who will perform at 7 o’clock.
Friday’s schedule begins with entries for 4-H exhibits as well as quilts, crafts and garden entries, all of which will be taken at the new fire station until 10 a.m. Judging will follow.
The lunch room will open on Friday at 11 a.m. and will be open again on Saturday at 11 a.m. and feature a whole hog roast. The lunch room will be closed during Saturday night’s parade.
Friday evening’s entertainment will be a program by the Galt Fire District at 6 o’clock, followed by music from the Whitewater Band at 8 o’clock.
A whole slate of activities are planned on Saturday, beginning with the baby show at the Galt Baptist Church. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the contest will follow. There will be four categories of judging in both the boys and girls divisions, with age groups of up to 4 months, 5 to 9 months, 10 to 18 months and 19 to 36 months.
Street contests will be held at 10 a.m. and will feature games for both children and adults. The lawnmower tractor pull is at noon.
The parade is slated for 6 p.m., with entries to be in line for judging by 5 p.m. Awards will be given for the best floats, best old car or truck, pre-1950 tractors, best dressed clown, best decorated pony and rider and best pony and mule hitch. There will be three prizes awarded in the kiddie parade, including a pet parade, bicycle and best costume. The kiddie parade is for children under the age of 12 and will be held in conjunction with the regular parade.
The evening entertainment will be a performance by Young Country at 8 o’clock. During that show, the fair prince and princess will be announced. Candidates include Zoe Littleton and Gunner Ryals, kindergarten; Jaylen Neff and Nikolas Hazzard, first grade; Kristie Coin and Justus Skinner, second grade; Megan Saul and Mason Alley, third grade; Jacy Loyd and Clayton Radcliff, fourth grade; Peyton Ryals and Brody Hatcher, fifth grade; and Mina Headrick and Nathan Brewer, sixth grade.
A community church service will be held on Sunday in the city park, beginning at 10 a.m. Persons attending the service, as well as all evening entertainment, are reminded to bring law chairs for seating.
Party Time, Inc. will be providing inflatable amusements for the children during the fair.
Mercer County Fair
The Mercer County Fair will be held from Tuesday, July 11 to Sunday, July 16 at the fairgrounds in Princeton.
Open class exhibit entries and 4-H conference judging will take place on opening night, with entries accepted from 5 to 6 p.m. and judging from 5 to 7 p.m. Judging of the open class entries will following the conference judging.
Wednesday’s schedule gets under way with swine registration at 7 a.m., followed by the swine show at 9 a.m. The rabbit/chicken registration will be at 10 a.m., with the rabbit/chicken show at 11 a.m.
Fair royalty will be crowned at 5:30 p.m., with the baby show scheduled at 6 p.m. Babies will be judged in swimwear only. The pedal tractor pull will be held at the lower fairgrounds beginning at 7 p.m. The evening entertainment will be Sarah Davison and Headin’ South at 8 p.m. in the arena.
Registration for the goat show opens Thursday’s events at 8 a.m., followed by the goat show at 10 a.m.
A talent show is planned for the evening, with registration from 5:30 to 6:30 and the talent show at 7 o’clock. First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded in three age groups for both singing and dance and miscellaneous. There will be a $5 entry fee for those persons registering by the July 7 early deadline. Entries accepted the night of the show will be charged a $15 fee. Registration can be sent to the Mercer County Talent Show in care of Marcia Cox, 804 E. Hickland St., Princeton, MO 64673.
Also scheduled on Thursday night is the Team Farmer event at the arena. The competition gets under way at 7 o’clock.
Friday will be Premium Standard Farms Day and will open with the Pine Evershine 4-H Club breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Registration for the sheep show will be from 8 to 9 a.m., with the sheep show set for 10 a.m.
The evening entertainment will be a side-by-side mud run at 7 o’clock.
The beef show highlights Saturday morning activities, with registration from 8 to 9 o’clock and the show at 10 o’clock. A pet show is at 4 p.m. and a 4-H ice cream social at 6 p.m.
A truck and tractor pull will also be held at 6 p.m. The youth livestock auction will take place at 7 p.m.
The final day of the fair will feature a horse show at 11 a.m. Registration will begin at 10 a.m.
The Southern Fun Carnival will provide the rides during the fair. Arm bands will be sold in advance from now until July 10. The cost is $10 each or 4 for $35. The armbands are available at the U.S. Bank, Great Western Bank, Big G Foodland, Bob’s Aryliner and the Mercer County Farm Bureau.
