Area School Boards Hold Meetings

Personnel and budget items topped the agendas of four area school boards during meetings held Tuesday evening. Those meeting included Pleasant View R-6, Princeton R-5, Chula and Tri-County R-7.

Pleasant View R-6

According to information provided by Superintendent Brian Robinson, the Pleasant View R-6 Board adopted the 2006-2007 budget, which shows revenues of $1,220,392 and expenditures of $1,237,016 for a deficit of $16,624. The budget includes capital improvement projects such as replacing inefficient exterior doors and windows throughout the school and upgrading computer technology in the school, as well as a projected 10 percent increase in employee health insurance.

The board authorized the four board officers and Robinson to be signors on the Federal Reserve Pledge Agreement and approved the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Assurances statement.

Following an executive session, the board voted to offer contracts for the positions of classroom paraprofessional, early childhood special education paraprofessional and special education process coordinator. Current personnel needs of the district include two bus aides. The board also discussed students records during the closed session.

The board will meet again in special session at 7 a.m. June 27 in the school library. The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 11.

Princeton R-5

The Princeton R-5 Board of Education hired an instructor and accepted a resignation during its meeting.

According to information provided by Superintendent Alan Hamilton, the board voted to hire Alex Manners, a graduate of Truman State University, to serve as band director, and accepted the resignation of high school science instructor Deb Jackson.

The board also discussed details of the new elementary building with architects from River Bluff Architects.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 26.

Chula

The Livingston County R-3 School Board also met, approving the 2006-2007 budget, increasing preschool fees and accepting a bid.

According to information provided by Board Secretary Kerry Savage, the board approved the 2006-2007 budget as presented and voted to transfer funds from the Incidental Fund in order to zero balance the Teacher Fund and to adjust the 2005-2006 budget to reflect actual revenue and expenditures.

Board members voted to increase preschool fees to $95 for full price and $70 for the reduced price. The board tabled a discussion on student performance and the gifted and at-risk programs until testing scores are received.

Mrs. Littrell reported that construction of the walking track is being prepared and will most likely be finished by the start of school. The OPT has provided funds to replace the stage curtains this summer. Riddle Construction will also be filling cracks in the playground area and re-sealing the entire playground area. She also presented a bid from Palmer Construction in the amount of $1,240 to remove and replaced the ramp beside the trailer.

The board agreed to implement a new reading series school-wide in the fall, which necessitates the purchase of new textbooks. The board voted to purchase that new reading series.

The board held an executive session, with no announcement made.

Tri- County R-7

The Tri-County R-7 Board met at Jamesport, however no information was available as of press time.
