Children ages 0 through fourth grade can participate in the “Paws and Claws” summer reading program at the Grundy Count-Jewett Norris Library.

Sign-up Day for the program will be on Monday, July 10. Toddler will sign up from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m., pre-kindergarten and kindergarten from 10 to 10:30 a.m., first and second graders from 1 to 2 p.m. and third to fourth grade from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. These will also be the times for the regularly-scheduled reading times on July 12, July 19, July 26 and Aug. 2. Tiny Tykes will meet once a month, July 20 and July 10, at 10 a.m.

Children in grades one through five will be asked to do a book report to keep track of the books read, with the reports being kept in a folder at the library. The reports will be done on forms available at the library. First and second graders may read 18 books with reports and third and fourth graders are encouraged to read 15 books that are age-level appropriate for their reports.

Small children, ages kindergarten and under, will keep track of the books they read by a home reading record form, also available at the library. Participants will keep track of how many minutes they are read to for a total of 1,000 minutes. Toddler to kindergarten age children may read 18 books to complete the program.

Reports and records are to be turned into the children’s department of the library by Aug. 7 to receive reading certificates during the awards day ceremony on Aug. 16, which will be held at 10 a.m.

As part of the first day sign-up activities, “Jason the Juggler” will perform at 2 p.m. at the library. The program is open to all reading program participants.
