Charles J. Armstrong, an 84-year-old resident of Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton, died at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton. Dr. M. DeWayne Anderson will officiate. A private burial will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, IA.

An open visitation will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at the funeral home.

Mr. Armstrong was born on Aug. 31, 1921 in Miles, IA, the son of Charles Herman and Ella Louise Heitt Armstrong. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was married on June 12, 1950 to Ola Nadine Elliott and later on June 10, 1975 to Beverly Raftis. Both preceded him in death. He retired from Wilson’s meat packing plant in Cedar Rapids and moved to Trenton 10 years ago to be close to his daughter.

He is survived by a daughter, Sherry Swanton and her husband, Dale, of Trenton; a step-son, Charles Hampshire of Center Junction, IA; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, his parents and a step-daughter, Robyn R. Hartl.
