Jameson Boy Mauled By Dog
A three-year-old Jameson boy was killed after being attacked by his uncle’s Rotweiler dog.
Quillan Cottrell died on Monday from injuries he received when mauled by the dog, which was less than a year old. According to the Daviess County Sheriff’ Kevin Heldenbrand, the dog attacked the child at his home. The dog was on a chain about 25 feet long and, according to the sheriff’s department, had never bothered anyone previously.
A sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene around 11:30 a.m. and shot and killed the dog when the animal charged at him.
An autopsy is to be performed by the Jackson County Examiner’s office and the death will be reported to the Missouri Child Review Board, as required by law. After the board does its review and makes a finding, Heldenbrand said information will be turned over to the prosecutor to determine if any charges are to be filed.
