John Edwin Thompson, an 88-year-old resident of Trenton, died at 5:55 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, where he had been admitted on March 15, 2006.

John Edwin Thompson, an 88-year-old resident of Trenton, died at 5:55 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, where he had been admitted on March 15, 2006.

The body was to be cremated under the direction of the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home of Trenton. Burial will be held at a later date at the Resthaven Mortuary Gardens, north of Trenton.

Mr. Thompson was born on Aug. 31, 1917 near Jamesport, the son of John William and Ida Mae Kessler Thompson. He attended the Jamesport schools, graduating in 1935. He was married at Moline, IL on Jan 28, 1951 to Edna Sharp, who survives of the home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Trenton and the Elks Lodge No. 801 of Trenton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Vernon and Don Thompson of Moline; one daughter, Susan Thompson of Orion, IL; a sister-in-law, Mildred Thompson of Ventura, CA; five grandchildren, Brook Banker and her husband, Chris, of Rock Island, IL, and Brittney Cross, Dylan Thompson Cross, Curt Thompson and Kaley Thompson, all of Moline; and one great-grandchild, Carver Jackson Banker.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church Elevator Fund and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home at 813 Custer St., Trenton, MO 64683.
