The Laredo R-7 and Princeton R-5 boards of education met in regular session Monday evening, with the Laredo board approving a salary schedule and the Princeton board discussing graduation and scheduling snow makeup days.

Laredo R-7

The Laredo R-7 Board approved the 2006-2007 salary schedule, reviewed the Missouri School Improvement Plan final report and scheduled a second parent teacher conference during its regular meeting.

According to information provided by Administrator/ Principal Jean Dustman, the board set the base pay on the 2006-2007 salary schedule at $22,500, which is a $750 increase. Included in the schedule is a $1,000 incentive for teachers with a master’s degree; a $1,000 incentive for teachers with a master’s degree and six years experience; and a $1,500 incentive for teachers with a master’s degree and 10 years experience. This action will meet the new state minimal salary requirements. All teachers were rehired for the 2006-2007 school year.

In addition, with two years remaining on Mrs. Dustman’s contract, the board approved a salary of $52,000 for the 2006-2007 school year.

Board members reviewed the final report from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regarding the district’s Missouri School Improvement Plan Review. The district needed 71 points to be accredited and received 91 points.

Board members voted to have a second parent-teacher conference this year, as was stated in the district’s Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. The calendar was amended as follows to accommodate the extra conference: there will be an early out on March 30, with no school on March 31 and one day will be added to the last day of school, making May 17 the last day. Originally, early out days were scheduled for May 11 and 12. Those days will now be full days and the last two days of school will be early outs.

In other business, the board voted to accept Joey Jacob as Larry Goethe’s replacement for the 2006 mowing season and heard a report on the Reading First Program by Melissa Williams. The board also learned that the district will not have a track team this year since none of the students in the eligible grades are interested in the sport.

The next regular board meeting will be held April 10.

Princeton R-5

The Princeton R-5 Board of Education made plans for graduation, set snow makeup days and approved a return to the seven-hour class schedule during its meeting.

According to Superintendent Alan Hamilton, the board discussed plans for graduation, which will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, May 12 at the PSF Center. The board approved a request from seniors to not have the band and choir perform at the ceremony due to space limitations.

The board accepted the retirements of Helen Robinson and Della Orndorff, effective at the end of the school year and approved a review plan for the career education program.

Board members approved a return to the traditional seven-hour class schedule, plus seminar period for 2006-2007.

In other business, the board approved MSBA policy updates, set April 13 and 18 as snow make up days and approved the annual evaluations for special education and vocational education programs. A specification package for high school roof repairs was approved, with bids to be opened at the April 10 meeting.
