Trail Crew Coming To Area
The Green Hills Trail Association, in cooperation with the Missouri Conservation Department, will be hosting a Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew to the Chillicothe area March 31-April 1.
The Subaru/International Mountain Bike Association Trail Care Crew will be in the area to talk trails, teach people proper trailbuilding technique and educate local trail enthusiasts about current trail issues and topics. Everyone who has an interest in trails is invited to attend.
The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew program includes two full-time, professional teams of trail experts who travel North America year-round, leading IMBA Trailbuilding Schools, meeting with government officials, land managers and trail advocates to improve trail opportunities. The visit to Chillicothe will be one of 70 stops on the 2006 schedule. IMBA crews have led more than 1,000 trail projects since the program debuted in 1997.
Doug Long, representing the local Green Hills Trail Association, emphasized that the trailbuilding school is not just for mountain bikers. Although the Trail Care Crew works with IMBA-affiliated groups to improve mountain biking opportunities, the “sustainable trail building principles and techniques” taught in the school can be used by all types of user-groups and trail advocates.
“We hope to see other representative groups such as nature enthusiasts, equestrians, hikers, trail runners, and recreational professionals attending the trailbuilding school.”
The school can serve as a forum to promote discussion among different trail user groups to communicate their needs and share ideas that will provide positive trail opportunities for all.
The Trail Care Crew visit will last three days, allowing time to assess local trails, host an evening event at a local business, conduct a one-day trailbuilding school, and ride with the locals. All are welcome to join the Subaru/IMBA Crew leaders when they come to town. Events open to the public include:
March 31 – Social/Welcome at Royal Inn Pizza, “Around the World with IMBA” slideshow, 7 p.m..
April 1 – IMBA Trailbuilding School at Poosey Educational Center, Poosey Conservation Area, 9 a.m. There is a limit of 45 participants and the cost is $10, which includes lunch and refreshments.
