Colene H. Tener, an 88-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Saturday evening, March 4, 2006 at the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton.

Colene H. Tener, an 88-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Saturday evening, March 4, 2006 at the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton.

The body will be cremated. Graveside memorial services will be held at a later date under the direction of Slater Funeral Home at Trenton.

Mrs. Tener was born on June 6, 1917 in Swan, IA, the daughter of Elmer and Myrtle Falor Thomas. She graduated from Trenton High School in 1937. She moved to the Brimson area in 1926, then moved to the Colorado and Nebraska area in the 1950’s, returning to the Trenton area in 1953. Mrs. Tener was a Grundy County Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff George Mapes in the 1950’s. She was a rural mail carrier for the Trenton and Bethany, areas for 30 years and was also credit manager for Montgomery Ward before retiring. Mrs. Tener was a Grundy County election judge for several years and was very active in the Trenton High Alumni Association. She enjoyed politics and living in the Trenton area.

She was married in 1974 at Cameron to Charles Tener, who preceded her in death in 1987.

She is survived by two nieces, Pamela Harvey and Penny Shuey of Centennial, CO.; two nephews, Patrick Williams of Centennial and Mike Williams of West Pueblo, CO; one step-son, Alan Tener and his wife, Donna, of Richardson, TX; one step-granddaughter, Lynn Moore of Trenton; one step-grandson, Jeff Cole of Carthage; one brother-in-law, Jim Wilson of Macon; one great-niece, Wendy Saathoff; two great-nephews Jeff Shuey and Tim Harvey; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by parents; one brother, Ashly Thomas; and one sister, Jane Williams.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. They may be left at the Slater Funeral Home.
