John Lipke Peery, 78, died on Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 at the Livingston Manor Care Center in Chillicothe.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Jamesport. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery at Jamesport.

Mr. Peery was born on May 18, 1927 in rural Livingston County, the son of John Roger and Hazel Grace Lipke Peery. He attended the Blackburn Rural School. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. 8th Army engineering squadron in Japan from 1945 to 1947. He was then employed with the Rock Island and CNW railroads as a maintenance worker for 42 years, retiring to work on his farm in 1989. He enjoyed caring for his cattle and caring for the farm’s soil. He was a conservationist, having terraces and waterways built throughout the farm. He enjoyed history, especially the Civil War and Livingston County history.

He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Jamesport and the VFW. He was also a member of the Jamesport Church of Christ.

Survivors include his sister, Mildred Doughty and her husband, Merle; a nephew, Doug Doughty and his wife, Barbara; a niece, Patricia Ferguson; great-nephews, Tyler Monier and Kellin Ferguson; and one great-niece, Konner Ferguson. All are of Chillicothe.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family suggest memorials to the Church of Christ or Masonic Cemetery at Jamesport.
