James R. Mertz, a 63-year-old resident of Grand Rapids, MI, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 while vacationing in Texas.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006 at the St. Isidore Catholic Church. Burial was at the Holy Cross Cemetery at Grand Rapids.
Mr. Mertz was born on Oct. 6, 1942 at Muskegon, MI, the son of Robert and Jean Pennell Mertz. He retired in 2000 after 22 years at Steelcase. During his high school years he resided in Trenton with his grandparents and graduated in 1960 from Trenton High School.
He is survived by his wife, Judith, of the home; a son, Greg Mertz and his wife, Shari; a daughter, Leslie Mertz; his mother, Jean McClure; two brothers, Stephen Mertz and his wife, Virginia, and Tom McClure; two sisters, Judy Hagebak and her husband, Beaumont, and Cindy Zelinski and her husband, Mark; two grandchildren; Brendan and Brea Mertz; and an aunt, Leah Rosenstangle of Trenton.
