Ethel Dorr, 101, died on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. She was a former instructor at North Central Missouri College in Trenton.
Memorial services were held at the Sunset Gardens in Centralia and the Bevier Baptist Church in Bevier.
Miss Dorr was born on Feb. 20, 1904 in Novinger, the daughter of Charles A. and Mary Evans Dorr. They later moved to Bevier. She received a bachelor of science in education degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville in May 1930 and a master of arts degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in August 1945. She began her teaching career at age 17. She taught in the Bevier Elementary and High School for several years before going to William Penn College is Oskaloosa, IA. She came back to Missouri to teach at NCMC, where she retired because of her health in 1970. NCMC honored her with a meritorious service award for 18 years of teaching English and speech.
She was a former member of the Bevier Baptist Church. After her retirement, she moved to Macon and became a charter member of the Crossroads Christian Church. She was active in Delta Kappa Gamma, Eastern Star and White Shrine of Jerusalem. In May 2005 she received a certificate of honor celebrating 70 years of membership from Chapter BN, PEO in Bevier.
She is survived by a nephew, Samuel J. Dorr of Florida; a niece, Doris Dawson Dorr Cooper of Centralia; three great-nephews and wives, Rodney and Geneva, Terry and Jeanne and Gary and Sandra; two great-nieces; several great-nephews and nieces; several great-great-nephews and nieces; several great-great-great nephews and nieces; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles Raymond Dorr; two nephews, Edward F. Dorr and Paul V. Dorr; an aunt, Elizabeth Brush; and two uncles, Bill Dorr and John Dorr.
Memorials have been suggested for an educational scholarship and can be sent to Doris E. Cooper at 419 S. Maple St., Centralia, MO 65240.
