The Jamesport City Council met Tuesday evening, hearing several concerns, approving an ordinance and hiring temporary employees.

According to information provided by City Clerk Carol Cass, the council met with Howard Stevenson, who had several areas of concern, including judging of the Christmas lighting contest, stop sign placement at the water tower, condition of the streets, connection with the Livingston Public Water Supply District #4, the need for a no-hitching sign at the locker and the need for an increase in merchant license fees.

Ernie and Leona Waterbury told council members they feel trash rates are unequal, with all commercial businesses not paying commercial trash rates. Richard Dustman, on behalf of Ruthvernelle Harrington, met with the council to discuss water hookup issues of the Wiley-B-Equine Dairy Products business. The property is owned and leased by Stan Peery. Other issues discussed include the problem of loose dogs running in the city, demolition of the snack shack and the lowering of the speed limit on North Locus (Highway 190) by the Missouri Department of Transportation. The new speed limit will be 25 miles per hour.

The council approved an ordinance concerning acceptance and compliance with various requirements to obtain financial assistance from the USDA, Rural Development.

A closed session was held to discuss personnel, after which the council voted to hire Bart Pliley, Vince Hutchinson and Earl Branson as temporary help. They will be paid $9 per hour.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for 5:15 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 7.
