Marvin J. Persell, a 74-year-old resident of Richmond, died at 1:10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006 at the Cameron Regional Medical Center.

Marvin J. Persell, a 74-year-old resident of Richmond, died at 1:10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006 at the Cameron Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, 2006 at the United Methodist Church at Richmond. Burial will be at Hatton Chapel at Trenton following military graveside services.

A family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006 at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.

Mr. Persell was born on April 4, 1931 in Trenton, the son of Kenneth H. and Lula A. Graham Persell. He was a 1949 graduate of Trenton High School and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 324, where he was active for many years; a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say; a member of the Ray Lodge No. 223, AF&AM; a member of the Richmond Shrine Club and Ararat Shrine; a member of the American Legion Post No. 237; and a member of the Richmond VFW Post No. 4398. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church, where he was active for many years. He had lived in Richmond since 1970.

Mr. Persell held several jobs in the Richmond area, including Richmond Chief of Police from 1970 to 1972 and the Missouri Department of Revenue License Bureau. He operated Persell’s Heavy Equipment Escort Service until his retirement in 1988 due to health reasons.

He is survived by one son, Michael J. Persell and his wife, Andrea, of Richmond; two sisters, Betty Berneking and her husband, Fred, of Davenport, IA, and Vera Doughtrey and her husband, Billy, of Trenton; and two grandchildren, Justin and Kalynn Persell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Terry Lynn Persell; and one brother, Kenneth Persell.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Richmond United Methodist Church.
