Overton Harris “Mac” McCullough passed away unexpectedly on Friday Dec. 16, 2005.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the North Raleigh United Methodist Church, located on 8501 Honeycutt Rd, Raleigh, NC. The service will be officiated by Dr. Robert O’Keef.

Mac was born in Kirksville on Feb. 25, 1937. He joined the U.S. Army after graduating from Westminster College in Missouri in 1959.

During his time in the military, Mac also earned his master’s degree from Michigan State University in Criminal Justice. During Mac’s 22 years in the army he was stationed in Hawaii, Panama, California, Colorado, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan and Kentucky as well as serving his country in Vietnam. Following his retirement from the army in 1982, he pursued his passion for flying and he enjoyed a two decade-long career in aviation. As a pilot, Mac flew for Emory, United Postal Services and UPS and most recently was working as an independent pilot for corporate executives.

Mac was a member of the local chapter of Amran’s Shriners as well as an active member of the Quiet Birdmen.

Mac is survived by his wife, Gail McCullough; his brother John McCullough of Trenton; his sons, Mark and Matt of Cary and Grant of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Sydney and Spencer Peeler, Ian McCullough, Colin McCullough, Natalie McCullough and Gavin McCullough; and two aunts. Elizabeth “Libby” Cowgill of Milan and Margaret “Marge” Clymer of Trenton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother and his daughter, Kimberly Peeler.

The family is requesting that donations be made to the Lupus Foundation of America or north Raleigh United Methodist Church.
